Aha I hear you cry, but arent
they a waste of time ( They wouldn’t punch through typing paper, was another
of the comments.) . I purchased one of these on impulse as a plinking thing
to play with and after over a month of waiting it arrived. Immediately
discarding the box and unreadable instructions I set about putting the
four AA battaries in it aswell as some ammo. Ilet rip at a poster hanging
on my curtains (don’t ask). Nicolas Cage died horribly, at three metres
he had no forehead left.
SPEC
Runs on 4 AA batteries
Has a 70 rnd. Reservoir of bbs
Is a miniture version of the mp5
LOOKS
It didn’t look quite as bad as first
anticipated. The shape is comfortable to hold, although it tends to look
rather gimpy holding it with two hands it is quite satisfying. The size
is excellent if you want to put it in a holster (it fits in mine without
having to hack off the fake magazine). The magazine is non-functional and
can be cut down with a hacksaw to fit a slightly smaller holster than mine
(It’s huge) and to get a chunky pistol look.
The automatic safety is a little hard
to get used to but is no problem if you are right handed, it just becomes
a natural motion when picking the gun up. However this is one gun that
left handers should leave well alone if they do not want to risk jamming
the safety off.
Its outer appearance is not too bad
but at its price you don’t mind giving it a bit of a thrashing.
ACTUAL PERFORMANCE
Now for the next test. I proceded
to shoot myself in the leg to which the response was ‘OW’. A good indicator
of power. Its range is terrible, well ok its not that bad just don’t use
it in a forest. It makes a good CQB weapon for the financially underwhelmed
and although this has yet to be tested on the battle field, performed excedingly
well against a similarly armed opponent in a flat. (over 400 rounds were
used testing this). Also the batteries seemed to die all too quickly and
the 4 round a second rate decreased dramatically. Ni-Cad batteries incresed
the rate of fire.
The sights arent too accurate but
you don’t need to use them over such distances.
Even though it has HOP it has only
about the power of a non-HOP spring pistol. So after 2 weeks It had already
been dismantled and some mods made to it.
The spring was changed for a standard
pistol spring from an old, broken UHC P7 M17. This seemed to work fairly
well with the Ni-cad batteries but for a bit of an extra speed and to give
the motor more power a 7.2 volt cordless drill battery was attatched in
parallel with the standard batteries so that if necessary the gun would
run without the AA’s altogether. The motor will probably burn out soon
but they are cheap enough anyway.
OVERALL
With the mods it is a very good sidearm
for those people who due to budget would normall end up buying a hand springer.
It packs a nasty surprise for those who mock the mini range. It has potential
for poking around corners and keeping the enemy’s heads down. All in all
good value for £21.50
It could do with a larger reservoir
for the bbs (Ed. these are avaliable and look like scopes.) and
a tracer unit (made cheaply from a 59p torch) are the next mods on the
list.
