Hard hitting 8mm
BB goodness!
Nowadays revolvers are a specialist
item at the best of times, in the Airsoft world, they are a niche market
ALL the time! having said that some of the best Airsoft items in the world
are revolvers, The rather marvellous Smith and Wesson M629 from Tanaka
for instance. probably one of the best looking and well performing Airsoft
pistol full stop.
At the same time, Marushin released
their version of the Smith, the 629 DX classic, a bit of an 80's throwback,
with a full underlug, and full chrome. Unlike the Tanaka, which used the
rather odd, but very cool PEGASUS system, that relies on an incredibly
efficient Magazine/gas tank system contained within the Cylinder of the
revolver. the Marushin used the much more conventional gas tank in the
handgrip, and Ammo in the cylinder. in removable shells. the MKK 629 was
wonderful, but it was only a 6mm.. it was however a bit of a looker, with
smooth sleek lines, and the best in MKK detailing. It also featured, BB's
in shells, which limited it to only 6 rounds before reloading, but it did
mean that it was pretty mean as it was the brass cartridges could be ejected
and looked cool.
However in the world of revolvers
there are two big names, Smith and Wesson as mentioned above, and of course
the Prancing horse of Colt Manufacturing Hertford, Connecticut.
The classic colt counterpart to the
S&W 629 was of course the large frame Colt ANACONDA. Which was a bit
of a beast of a gun, Which it had to be to take the punishment dealt out
by the massive .44 magnum cartridge, (of course, you could always use .44
special cartridges if the punishment was too much )
So now, as part of their 8mm range
of MAXI revolvers, Marushin have released the ANACONDA for all of us revolver
freaks.
That's right.. 8mm BB's!
First of all the bad points, It only
fires 6 shots before having to be reloaded, and the grips look appalling,
being as they are brown plastic in the Bakelite style. horrible and creaky.
luckily, thats all the bad points. Frankly the grips can be easily replaced
with real ones, and the six shots?
well, lets have a look at those.
8mm Magnum.
The good news? well the pistol is
horrendously accurate, on a 6 metre range, it was punching inch sized groups,
double action. It is also not a 6mm Airsoft, It's an 8mm, Which means when
it hits, it hits hard! On the IPSC range, the 8 mili punches BIG holes
in targets, that are easy to score
and very easy to see, great for follow
up shots.
The 'Conda even comes with a 20mm
scope mount rail, Free in the box! Which means any number of accessories
can be bolted on top, I found that a TGS Aimpoint style Red dot sight,
worked wonders, Although some of you may prefer a lower powered scope.
The addition of a red dot, made it easy to
use the 'Conda to decimate targets
selectively, or put every little 8mm ball fired, into the same hole!
