DolphiN Workshop: MiniMP5 modifications

The Automatic Miniairsofts are great fun, However they are totally unsuitible for skirmishing. Fun plinking, maybe, but out on the field they lack ANY power, Range or anything. Okay, they are super cheap in comparison to AEG's But going up against the big boys will quickly result in egg on face and BBs in chest. :(

So what are you going to do? Well. Using some common or garden items Minis can be upgraded. Okay. Maybe not to the same level as an AEG, but better then a normal spring pistol. You'll still be laughed at, But keep it close at hand, and you might just get a hit!

Oh, If DolphiN#K see's you using a mini, upgraded or not, he will jump up and down on it till it breaks. He's like that you see.

The modifications to the mini mp5 are simple.

You will need

Phillips screwdriver.
Drill + bit the same size as your socket.
Soldering iron
Wire
Mono headphone socket (available at any electronics shop)
Mono headphone jack
Drill + bit the same size as your socket.
Large Ni-cad battery (I used a black and decker cordless drill battery)
Epoxy glue/super glue
Solder
Black tape.
Spring pistol spring (I used a uhc HK P7 M17)

This mod is quite simple it gives you more power and greater rof on your mini, but beware this will probably kill your mini faster than it would wear normally so I accept no responsibility for what you do.

  1. Dismantle your mini ( see miniairsoft page from the links section on airsoftzone.com for tips)
  2. Solder one wire from each terminal on the motor to each terminal of the socket.
  3. Work out from my diagram where the socket should go and drill the hole ( the best place is on the slanting part underneath the gun between the stock and the grip. See picture)
  4. Glue socket into hole (with main part inside of course)
  5. Replace original spring with the stronger pistol spring.
  6. Reassemble.
  7. Solder wires to the jack/plug
  8. Take the bigger battery and work out by trial and error which is the right way around for the wires to go.
  9. Attatch the wires to the battery using solder, tape etc. Ensuring that you can still recharge it.
  10. Load and fire.

Note: you still can put the batteries in the grip aswell for extra stupidity. Alkaline batteries will not drive the piston, AA nicads might though. Also on this very high rof:

a) thoe motor may burn out eventually (they’re cheap enough anyway) and

b) pellets may not fire on each and every piston cycle as they do not have enough tine to drop down. (however the enemy does not know that, heh heh heh, that’ll keep their heads down!)
